WHAT A NIGHT
On Saturday December 16th Gwen Beloti & Friends gathered to celebrate one another, to celebrate life, and to support our extended community. This year at the Black X White Cocktail Fundraiser we collected funds to benefit hurricane victims, particularly those affected by hurricane Irma in the Caribbean regions.
The Gwen Beloti brand was born in Brooklyn NY, a place where the Caribbean culture is so beautifully embedded in the community. As such, how fitting it was to host our 5th Annual Holiday Gathering in Dear Brooklyn. We mingled, dined, were entertained, and we gave back!!
In a Brooklyn art gallery with work curated by local artists, we were blessed with the talents of three published, gifted, and acclaimed poets. Their spoken word was riveting and relevant. To further thank the guests that purchased tickets to be a part of this event we raffled off several gifted items from local businesses. Gifts in the likes of jewelry, home goods, fashion, beauty subscription boxes, and literature.
What prompted the organization of the 2017 fundraiser was the success of our 2016 holiday gathering. In 2016 we hosted the Gwen Beloti & Company Big Dinner in Brooklyn as part of the Little Dresses for Africa (LDFA) Big Dinner Project. LDFA organized this project and garnered the support of groups and businesses across the globe, Gwen Beloti being one of them. At the Big Dinner Fundraiser a portion of event proceeds were raised in support of non-profit organization Little Dresses for Africa to help transform twelve villages. Donations were used to help provide these villages with clean water, a primary school education and a community center.
We were so inspired that we pledged for Giving Tuesday 2016-2017 to continue these efforts, pledging to select a cause each year to support at our holiday gathering. The holiday season is typically a time of celebration and giving thanks which can be a challenge for some due to lack of resources, hardships or otherwise. So as we celebrate and express gratitude we’ve tacked on the task of helping others do the same by dedicating a portion of event proceeds to a cause. After doing some research and taking into account the current state of affairs, locally and globally, we decided for 2017 to support the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, Disaster Relief Fund.
We're not yet sure what 2018 has in store but we’re excited and committed to extending ourselves to others where this is need.
