NYFW Style Explained: From the Front Row to the Runway
Fashion week is as much about street style, after party looks, and front row fashion, as it is centered around what brands send down the runway. This year, we loved to see Rihanna embracing maximalism with dramating layering necklaces walking into an after party, Storm Reid with layered bangles and bracelets at the Coach show, and fashion editor Anika Reed rocking hoop earrings with her chic outfits.
The runways told a similar story, as maximalism was a key fashion trend in the dramatic silhouettes and overstated details seen at Tibi, Alaia, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and others. Joyful expression was also a key theme that we predict will translate to jewelry, as shows like Alice and Olivia, Proenza Schouler and Ulla Johnson embraced color and vibrant prints. Plus classic all white looks showed up at Rachel Comey, Carolina Herrerra and several other flagship womenswear brands, and we couldn’t help but imagine all the possibilities in combining clean white outfits with gold accessories.
And of course, emerging designers set the scene and made statements of our own. This year, we were blessed to participate in the RAISE showcase and the energy was unmatched.
How to Make New York Fashion Week Trends Your Own
The key with translating any trend is to note what elements of the trend you like and then imagine how you can style it. Layering necklaces and bracelets is a trend that we know is here to stay, and the way you interpret that can be in multiple ways.
Try stacking a few bangles with your watch to create arm candy like Storm Reid, or combine a long pendant necklace with several shorter necklaces to create your own take on Rihanna’s after party style.
Alternatively, you might also consider taking one theme from fashion week, like maximalism or joyful dressing, and translating that into a way that fits your style. Yes, maximalism could mean layering necklaces and bracelets, or it could mean adding multiple hoops to your earring stack and wearing multiple rings. Find ways to make the trends your own in a way that expresses your unique style because that’s what fashion is all about.
